This girl I used to be friends with owes me 50 dollars. We went on a road trip to a mall about 2 hrs away ones and she drove. Her car hit something and got a flat tire. I offered to pay for it because if you used a Sears card you recieved 20 dollars off (i had the sears card for emergencies so I thought this was appropriate) and she vowed to pay me back. The bill came and I mailed it to her and she didn't respond so I paid it but kept asking her. She said she thought it was only fair if we split it 3 ways (another girl was with us) and i said no thats not fair its your car! months went by and finally i got a check in the mail... for only 25 dollars!! How do i get the rest of the money back?! she is totally rude and not cooperative!

Chalk it up to experience. At least you got back half of the money- I lent family money ($850) and still have not seen a dime of it back in over 6 years. I told myself I will never lend money to this one person again, however; I have lent money ($100) to another family member and they paid me back within 6 months- so I might allow this one to borrow again, but I will not let any of my sisters borrow because I can't trust them enough- They only talk to me when they feel they can get something out of me- one of my sisters I have not talked to in over 3 years- the other has mental issues--- Like I said before just Let it go and chalk it up to experience-- You also said there was another person in the car, but you did not want to split the cost three ways- Why not? Why don't you try to see if you can get the rest of the money from the other girl? Next time don't offer you're card to pay- then you'll know whether or not you'll be asked for help and you can make a deal that if you use your card for the discount that will count as your part of the bill.

Being that it was a trip to the mall using her car, did you help pay for the gas to and from the mall? If not, then helping to pay for the flat was the least YOU could do.

Accept the $25 she sent, keep the friendship and chalk it up to experience.

Just eat the 25 dollars. IT's not worth the heartache or hassle. I Know its just principals but sometimes you have to accept that some people are just azzholes. Take it as a learning experience and move on. And next time you loan ANYONE money, if you definitely want the money back, get a PROMISSORY note.

Good luck.

You already said she is your ex-friend, do you think she will be bother to pay you back??? Keep your finger cross and forget about the $50...Just treat it as, $50 to see a person.
