Yet you are on-line posting this question. Couple of things could be going on here. If you are using a dial up you only need to have phone service you do not need to have a working phone.
If you are using cable or DSL connection then your computer is directly connected to a Cable or DSL modem and you still don't need a working phone.
All you need is the phone service to be working.

Though it is difficult to understand what you are asking, I am going to try to answer to the best I can.
If your computer is attached to the attached through a modem where you use a phone line and if the line is dead then you cannot log into the internet.
Phone lines are also used for DSL connections but it will have the same issue. If the line is dead then you cannot get on.
Cable modems are the TV type cables. You will have an ethernet cable running from the computer to the cable modem.

what do u mean ur phone is dead? Out of battery or cut off? Cuz if you have dsl then that runs through the phone line and you wont be able to use it if your phone is cut off. If your phone only run outta battery then it shouldnt matter. If you have dial up that also runs through the phone line so again u cant use it. The best alternative would just be that if you have cable then see if they have fast access and u'll never have to worry bout phone lines and internet. Being online runs through the cable tv...i have it and its awesome...really fast and i can talk on the phone at the same time....I hope I answered your question right....This response is based on your question that I tried to understand more clearly myself....Good Luck...Take care

if your phone line doesnt have a dial tone and is not working, your internet connection is affected. call your telephone company to get your phone fixed, and then try to go online. if you still dont have internet connection even after you have the phone line fixed, call your ISP. =)

look whos talking you can't even spell the word ENGLISH.
As for your problem, it could be the modem. Maybe you don't have them connected right. You should check it again. I had a similar problem.
