country girl and ironicas answers combined are what I'm talking about. People who are very bound to their faith, but don't seem to practice the teachings, seem to be the extremists that kill and start holy wars.

No, I dont think so. People of every religion do not always do as the religion teaches. Most people arent as devote to their god as they portray.
Look at the BTK killer, he was supposededly a man of faith.
What would happen is then there would be no seperation of church and state or anything. It would become more like a communistic rule. With that one religion being forced upon everyone.
You'd have civil wars and uprisings.

I think the world would be more peaceful if people would stand by their religion. It doesn't have to be one, just follow their own.
How many forms of Christianity are out there, and all other religions, that talk about peace and love. If everyone would just follow the teachings of love, and have understanding for those different than you, then there would be peace.
Until people can accept differences in the world - I'm not saying like it, just accept it - then there wouldn't be so much hate.
It seems like it would be easy to do, but that's what makes it so difficult.
