Two months ago, I started talking on the phone with my friend from Canada, whom I met online. She and I are really, really close. The thing is, I've been keeping it secret because it's been a really stressful time recently and I didn't want to add any more stress to the mix. But now, I want to come clean and tell my mom that we've been talking. I know I could probably just lie more and not tell my mom that we've been talking for months, but I want to be totally honest. I have wanted to be honest from the beginning, but I didn't want to add any stress to my mom's life or distract her from her school.

But, now, I don't know how to tell her. What should I say? How should I say it? When should I say it? Please, anything that will help me, please tell me.

Thank you all.

I really dont see how it is gonna cause her any stress unless your stressed she is gonna kill you over the phone bill. I would just tell her and not lie or she is not gonna trust you for a long time even when you do tell the truth.

how are you sure she doesnt already know. She does get the phone bill right? Besides, whats the big deal? Just be like mom I want to tell you something. And just act excited about it and tell her you are really happy that you met someone that gets you and that youve been frustrated and stuff. She might take some sympathy on you.

Give your mom a chance. She has been through alot in life. She would rather handle you telling her the truth, then find out you have been lying to her all this time. She loves you and wants you to be happy. If you are happy she will be happy. Trust her. Start out with the line about how you did not want to ditract her from school so this is why you did not tell her before. Remember she is your MOM.

I wouldn't bother her unless its getting ready to go to another level. Then you can sit her down and go into details that you've talked and done XYZ, and need advice on ABC.

Go straight through to that last part and make sure you set her up with saying that you'd really like to know what she thinks and if she has any advice. It assumes that she already approves and is just helping now. A good way to set the conversation on a good path.

How would telling your mom about talking to your friend on the phone add to her stress? Unless you're gay?

Tell her about it. Besides, wouldn't she notice the charges on the phone bill?

She's your mom. She loves you, always will, no matter what.

how can you keep it a secret when she sees the phone bill? if you were to keep it a secret you should just talk to the friend online. But just sit with her when she has free time and that she's in a good mood, so you can tell her more comfortably.

Tell her what that you've been talking on the phone? If that adds stress to your mothers life then you and she have some serious problems.

How many kinds of an idiot are you? What can you tell your mother that makes sense? A woman you met on line and have never even met! Say these things to yourself and see if you have any kind of relationship to tell her about.

just sit down with her and tell her, and explain that you have gotten close to the person and the reason why you haven't told her before was because of the stress and because you didn't know how she would take it....
