It is a major crock! They'll use whatever excuse they can to raise the prices.

Greed. Plain and simple greed. Why would a hurricane affect gas prices at all since it takes 6 weeks to get gas from the refineries to the pumps, which means by the time the storm hits, gas that they are increasing in price, has already been processed an in storage or on route for several weeks. And why does it not affect the price of motor oil? These large companies simply use the storms as an excuse to set prices how ever they want. Do you think its fair that we are paying the highest prioces/gallon ever at the same time the CEO of Exxon is announcing the highest quarter profits of any company in US history? Before Hurricane Katrina, gas prices were at something like $2.25/gal. during the storm and immediately after they used the excuse of having to close refineries in the Gulf (even though gas was already in the pumps) to jump prices up over a dollar a gallon. they did this so that when they dropped it back down to $2.95/gal, you were just apply that you weren't paying over $3. You have been manupilated, America and it will continue to happen until we force our government to do something about it.

it's all about brainwashing you and making more money. It's a business, man, and the Oil companies want to make a ton of money. The gulf coast has about 5% of our oil supply; the gas prices shouldn't go up. Oil companies use the media to market excuses so you and everyone else goes to the pump thinking that you're paying a reasonable price because of a little wind and rain in the south.

The oil prices are going higher because there's less of it. It's not only the hurricane's. I'm in FL, I got hit 3 times last year, they went up pretty high, but now even higher because of the war in the Middle East. (Supposedly said $4.00 for Reg.)

Because we have more people in the US now. I plan on filling up mine this afternoon after work before prices start to go up again...they are at $2.89 at my gas station right now.
