The cheapest/easiest way to increase any computer's speed is to install more RAM. If you are using windows xp the minimum requirement to run windows is 128 MB most late model laptops are equiped with at least 256 MB from the factory. 512 MB is usually the best combination of cost and speed. But if you have a very modern laptop running one gig of RAM isn't a bad idea. After 512 MB you may still increase the speed but the ammount of increase per MB might start to diminsh above 512. Also, if you have one 256 card installed now you have one empty slot so simply installing another 256 card will be inexpensive and easy to do. If you already have 512 MB or above increasing speed will be much more difficult. Try to make sure you don't have applications running that you don't need. Use a spyware utility often if you connect to the internet. When my computer slows down I usually have spyware that is causing the processor to work overtime. Look at the taskbar by the clock....if you have applications that appear there with small icons they can be using memory causing a slowdown on your computer.

It extremely relies upon on the fee that your ISP is featuring you with; reckoning on what you're using DSL, Cable and so on. DSL is often slower then Cable yet once you reside in an area that has severe Cable cyber web utilization then which will sluggish your speeds. The router will make certain that the archives is transmitting as quickly as plausible to the different computers which you're sharing your cyber web with; yet while the fee which you're turning out to be out of your provider service is sluggish then no longer something will help you. you may call them and ask them what optimum speeds are set for you and notice if there are any larger speeds attainable. additionally, make certain which you do set up your router with a password and shrink the style of computers that would get entry to it. in case you do no longer defend it you may produce persons hacking in and sharing your bandwidth; which will sluggish you down better.

I will need few information to give you better answer.
What your processor speed?
Do you use the processor 100% almost all the time?
Do you use all the memory?
Use Task Manager to gather this information.
If you use the processor almost 100% all the time. It's time to get new laptop.
If it's memory problem then adding some more will probably fix the problem.
Another possibility will be you run out of HardDrive space for virtual memory.
