Thats pretty much impossible isn't it. Regardless of whether we're conscious of it or not we usually and probably most of the time expect something in return for what we do. Its what we're taught. Its not exactly a question of whether we want rewards for our deeds but that we have no control over it. Because every action has a reaction. So, you do something you're going to see something for it. Thats life. Sure there are good deeds for helping people but usually they repay you in some way or the other whether you want it or not.

how about the people who give their own time FOR FREE to charity organisations, volunteer workers who help with the elderly, then you got the greenpeace volunteers, who go risk their own lives to save the whales FOR FREE , the people who wokr the soup kitchen dishing out some food FOR FREE, i could go on but i wont my point is there is many people in this world that do a lot and offer their services FOR FREE (aka FOR NOTHING), with no intention or hidden agenda to get anything back, other than a satisfied mushy feeling inside of them in knwoing they have helped to make someones or somethings life a little better! oh and BTW HOUSEWIFES DO COME UNDER THAT!

No one, if you believe in the social exchange theory (which I do).
Everyone does things for something in return. Some people say that someone has done something honorable because 'they are just a good person' when in fact the person did it because it made themself feel good or it was expected and therefore to ovoid being ostrisized.
The Social exchange theory is based on a central premise: that the exchange of social and material resources is a fundamental form of human interaction.
The task of social exchange theory is then to investigate the reciprocal (mainly material) advantages that individuals draw from their exchange transactions on the premise that they engage in and sustain most social, including noneconomic, relations in the rational expectations of such advantages independently of normative or group considerations. In short, exchange theory in sociology studies the “mutual gratifications persons provide one another that sustain social relations. The basic assumption is that persons establish social associations because they expect them to be rewarding.

I do lots of things for nothing. I help my friends, I volunteer, I work for my boss sometimes with no pay. Life is not about money or what you get from doing good things. I like the way I feel when I do something for someone. That is the only things I get out of it, if you call that nothing.

Edna---she makes us all laugh and entertains us here at yahoo answers and gets nothing in return except for getting reported by ungrateful answers users who have no sense of humor.
Keep up the good work, Edna...I love you!
I'm going to Wal*Mart now to buy a few more Edna action figures. I need the Dr. Edna and the McEdna.

Excuse me! Housewifes work extremely hard and they are doing it for nothing!! Yes, they get taken care of, but are they appreciated? What if the husband's wife went on strike? Where would they be?
Volunteers do something for free, by the way.

My mother.. who takes in kids .. feeds them, clothes them and buys them presents at Christmas, Easter and on their Birthdays because their parents can't afford to.
She doesn't get anything in return.. no money from the government.. no extra money anywhere.
She is good hearted and loves children, she can't stand to see them suffer...

I can't. No matter what I do for no compensation, I feel good doing it and knowing that I am serving the Lord. May God bless and keep you.
