Yes, it is possible. As the brain was repairing itself, apparantly some new connections were made that weren't there before. People with brain injuries can be totally different when they recover. Usually it involves a serious personality change. Good for your friend on his newly found increase in intelligence. Encourage him to take this gift and do something wonderful with it.

I have heard of knocking some sense into someone, but I thought is was just an expression. I would like to see some kind of before and after documentation before I would believe it.
