This question causes memories to become as vivid as the clearness of the day. Speaking honestly, it is obvious the question is a mix between Civics and Economics. No way to answer this theory of pretence, which leaves one hanging.

Attitudes and behaviour informs the mindset of a people as such what one may call poor attitudes and behaviour , will definately be the focuse of such a people thus deterring national development. A people whose ways of live centres on corruption cheating, laziness, not enterprising and not ready to face national challenges, cannot take their nation to the next level. so, having the rigth attitudes and behaviour is the first step toward achieving national development because an enterprising and discipline people means a growth driven polity.

It impacts it a great deal, but are you talking about individual citizens or at the national level, i.e. government and leadership?

At the government level, just look at North Korea and other countries with not so normal agendas. I don't see too much domestic or foreign investment in those countries and look where they are at. Even in 1st world countries the attitudes and actions of the political rulers affect the nation's outlook.

At the individual level it's just as problematic but maybe not as pronounced. Ultimately your citizens become your leaders that make policy and represent your country.

To move forward and improve upon your current situation you definitely need a strong personality but not at the expense of a bad attitude or even abhorrent or reckless behavior.

Considering the populace is the medium in which national developement occurs and is made possible the impact is paramount.

We are already seeing the effects of the instant gratification society in politics. War weariness is much more rapid than in the past, most Americans just want this war in Iraq to be over already. Computers have almost killed the publishing business, becuase a book is the slowest way to read.

Go to South Africa. The people there are violent, lazy, stupid and don't have an entrepreneurial bone in their bodies (the majority). The country has rampant crime, which is screwing the economy, and nothing the govt does can get small business working.

Then go to Vietnam. Industrious, poor but determined, entreprenurial etc, they're like polar opposites and it shows in all aspects of the national development

It starts with the closest level, that of your own house.

You show kindness and respect, but diligence and a strong work ethic, and hopefully a little humor.

If everyone does that to everyone they deal with on any level; family, neighborhood, community, local government, state government, federal government, then national development can't help but improve.

Well that depends on if you believe that the two are directly or indirectly affected by eachother.

If you want to make a positive difference in your country you would do what's best for the country. Community service, helping the poor, and so on.

If you wanted to make things worse you would make the effort to screw stuff up. Be greedy, rob, steal, murder, and so on.
