They would talk about Unified Field Theory. It was Einsteins work for the last 30 years of his life and Hawking's work for his entire career.

Essentially they are looking for a single set of equations that incorporate the Electro-Weak Force, The Strong Nuclear force, and Gravity.

It is a fascinating subject. The difficulty seems to be resolving the role of gravity at extremely small scales where it is very very weak in comparison to the other forces.

Fantastic! Einstein never thought much about his own theories. He was open to any new idea. He would love to sit down with Hawking and throw ideas around.
