Maybe I should use this time to get involved in attending city council meetings to talk about proper city planning and uncontrolled growth issues.

I haven't found a 4 min stop light yet and have been in Tampa for over 30 years. Al tho they do seem to be that long I have timed many of them. The intersections on Dale Mabry Highway seem to be the longest, taking up to 2min before a cycle. I Drive a motorcycle every so often and have a hard time getting some intersections to see that im there in the mornings when no one else is around.
I have found two different types of lights: Smart lights and Dumbb lights. Smart lights will function with the highest flow of traffic (staying green) then when a vehicle at a red light pulls up the light will cycle. A Dum light is one that is just on a timed cycle. every so many seconds the light will cycle thru its colors even when there are no other cars around. And there are Nasty lights that pedestrians can push to cross the road and they take for ever to cycle (mostly around schools so I kinda understand that) And the Kick butt light are coming, They operate to move traffic when emergency vehicles are coming, Stopping traffic in all directions except the one they are traveling and this clears the path for them to go instead of crossing to incoming traffic or worrying about crossing an intersection during a red light.

But to the point yes Tampa has a traffic mess and its getting worse. But of course when you put school back in and bring down all the snow birds, oh what fun it is......N O T......
I travel 30 miles to work and 30 back home, To alot of people that's not far but its all city streets or stop and go interstate.

I do fill your Pain......... I'll be the guy beside ya with no hair and my eyes crossed.

I used to stay in Tampa. The good term is Tampanian. I undergo in recommendations, whilst Sandy Freedman became Mayor of Tampa, certainly one of her considerable gaffs became to call citizens of Tampa "Tampons." It became the working comedian tale of the last decade. She'll never stay it down.
