You can group people by their race, national origin, religion -- anything that you can factually prove. Stereotyping, on the other hand, involves assigning characteristics to a group that may or may not be true. Saying "All people can't drive" or " people are stupid" is stereotyping, because it is a generalizing statement that can't be proven. Saying "Those people coming out of that church are Catholic" is grouping people, because it is an observation that can be proven.

you can group people by age,race,cities,their music and sports,their likes and dislikes.it is within these groups that you can then begin to stereotype.
