A school project on ANY topic, wow. I'm not sure what grade you are in, but I've done two projects on whale evolution since it's sort of recent as of the last 15 years. It's a complicated topic though.

Broad ideas, and you can choose a more narrow topic to focus on:

1) A disease: the origins, nature of it, who it affects, what is being done
2) Immigration to an area: first colonies in an area, why they moved there, who did they displace, how did they use the land, what happened to the colony now
3) A religious cult like the Hale Bop people: Who was their leader, why did people join, what were their beliefs, why did they all commit suicide
4) The genocide in Darfur: What is going on, who are these people, how do they differ from one another, what is being done to stop it

Anyway, pick anything that interests you.

It depends on your interest. What has worked well for me our reports about books that I liked. And you could write about several and compare and contrast them and tell why you liked them. Or if you like movies, you could do the same thing with that.
Another topic that I've usually done well with is personal experience. Write about some interesting thing that has happened to you. A bad vacation, your family, etc.
Do your project on something that interests you!

You will have the best time if it something YOU are interested in. What are your hobbies? what are you passionate about? What is your favorite _________ ? What are you curious about? What would you like to learn more about?

There must be something!

One time I was curious about how cows digested their food. I did a bit of research, and it was fascinating. My own interests and curiosity guided my project, and when I presented, I was enthusiastic about it because I was interested in it and interested in sharing information about it..
