I have just read this story of a man who loved curries, Knew nothing about computers, was a very shy person (didnt even like to talk on the phone). Then he had a heart transplant. When he came out of hospital he hated even the smell of curries, He was suddenly a computer whiz, became an extrovert and his taste in music changed dramatically and he suddenly loved classical music. Then he started to have visions of a twisted mangled car. He wrote to the family to say thankyou and to ask them what the man who died was like and they wrote back saying that he was a computer analyst who loved classical music and played the piano and violin, he was an extrovert and belonged to an amateur dramatics group and he had died in a car crash. My question is have any of you got similar stories and what do you make of this?

He could have had a "walk in" where the spirit attaches itself to a living person who then takes on the personality of the dead person.

Organs can have memories for physical properties. This is why things like toxins can be detected in organs after death. It is theoretically possible to convict someone of posioning through tracking the traces of toxins in donated organs. The exception is the heart.

As for acquiring memories of the host there is a more parsimonious explanation. The knowledge that you are dying and get a last minute reprieve through a transplant is a very traumatic and frightening experience. If you thought you had a second chance at life would you not start to explore things that you once ignored. Wouldn't you want to know about new music, new experiences? Wouldn't you want to get out in the world and meet people? As with trauma survivors from violent crimes, accidents, natural disasters, having a near miss with death changes people because they want to take advantage of the second chance they have. As for changes in what you like the taste of or smell of this is easily explained by the sideeffects that the very powerful anti-rejection drugs have on our body and senses. Anti-biotics for example destroy many of the good bacteria in the gut. Eating a curry would lead to lots of wind and diahorrea - I'd hate curry after that too!

There was a TV show on last year about this, I can't remember the name of it, but none the less it was on.

I don't know if I believe in this phenomenon, but I think that anything is possible. On a slightly different subject, I have a twin sister. About 6 months ago I started having abdominal pains in the middle of the supermarket. Instantly I knew there was something from with my sister. There is no way I could have known this- she lives in England and I emigrated to the USA 2 years ago. When I got home, I called mum and she said that Alice had been rushed to hospital with a burst appendix.

Basically what I m saying is that if such things can occur between sisters why can't organs hold onto memories?

I don't have any similar stories but I can't help thinking you are making this up! But.. ok, lets say its for real, the spirit of the donor is clearly clinging on to his life, even though there's only half a pound left of it, and he is possible merging with the spirit of the donee who received the heart, if not struggling to take over.

There was a horror film, where a man got the hands of a murderers sewn on his ragged limbs, of course, he started his killing rampage. I'm not sure about the film or the reality of taking on a personality disorder after the donor.
