The kids will probably start out democratic but hopefully as they mature and gain more wisdom they will be republicans.

I am having a hard time with this black and which characterization of "republican v. democrat" as if they are black and white. Sure there are those who just happen to fall in the far right or far left, but most of us are somewhere in between, even though we vote mostly one way or the other. For example, I would definitley be democrat when it comes to most social issues, but I am a classic conservative in the financial area.

There must be some points that you will agree on and the others like you said are good topics for conversation. who knows, maybe one of you will convert the other on one issue or another. But as long as you are both open minded and realize that even though that is the way you believe, it may not be right for everyone in every situation, you will be just fine. As for your kids, they will probably rebel and end up w/ some crazy hybrid or offshoot like the green party or independents. No worries!

I think that a married couple can survive. Marriage is not based on political views. If your marriage is based on political views, i would be very surprised if you guys made it. Marriage is based on love and trust. Both parties of a marriage have to compromise with the other. "For Better or for Worse". As far as your children go, by the time they vote they will have learned politics from you (their parents) and from school. This will enable them to make their own decision. If you try to push them in a political direction, then you will cause problems between you and your spouse.

Its easy... don't worry... This country is a 2 party system, you are a 2 party marriage. One party is always f-cking the other, in your marriage, one of you will always be on top...

As for the kids... well, just make sure you have twins... one of each ( Dem and Rep )

In all seriousness, it's not a big deal. My family is almost pure democrat, but we have one of us who is hard core right wing and married to a lib dem... they have the best marriage out of all of us...lol.

Good luck on Nov. 4th!

You created the marriage because of love not political affiliation, that should have nothing to do with the upbringing of children either. You were free to become whatever you wanted and when you have children it's their turn to decide for themselves. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink.

Try reading the book "All is Fair in Love, War and Running for President by Mary Matalin and James Carville. They are a married couple, he is an outspoken liberal, she, a conservative. They've been married for years. You'll get a kick out of them.

Look at Arnold Schwarzenegger (sp?) and Maria Shriver (sp?). Arnie's a die-hard Republican and Maria is a die-hard Democrat (related to the Kennedy's, I believe).

As long as love is your main glue and politics is just one of the many little (emphasize LITTLE) things that individualize you two, I think you'll be fine.

How about just thinking for yourselves rather than letting a party think for you. Politics arn't all black and white. I know there are ideas in both the republican and democratic party that I agree with.

If your political views are seriously far apart, this should have been discussed just as thoroughly before your marriage, or even more so, than racial or religious differences. However, I know a couple who have had a long successful marriage despite this difference, because they both know how to control their tempers.

I'm a Democrat, my husband's registered Republican but votes Democrat (wish he'd just re-register!!).

As for any kids you may have, they'll probably pay attention to what you do and say, but ultimately will decide for themselves...hopefully!
