Mozilla Firefox by a landslide!
IE is not updated as often as Firefox, has no add-ons, extensions or themes and is the most hacked compared to other browsers.
I've been using Firefox for a few years now and not a single pop-up or problem.
Download firefox and check out the extensions available, it's unbelievable the amount of customizing you can have. There are also add-ons, extensions, themes, plug-ins, and you can even create your own extension, theme, etc, submit it to the site and have it rated by other users.
I particularly like "Google preview" and "Stumble Upon"
You can also have Firefox erase your history when you shut it down, by the menu Tools>options>privacy tab>settings button and at the bottom select "Clear private data when closing Firefox"

IE is last on my list, if I had to choose a web browser. Sorry MS :*-(

You will never get an absolute answer on this one.

First, it all depends on what you mean by "better". As of this very moment Firefox is "better", since IE7 is still in Beta.

Firefox will always be be "better" because it is less attacked than IE, and therefore "more secure" (it really isn't that much more secure, it's just that less people take the time to exploit it).

IE will always be "better" because most web pages are designed with IE in mind, so from a user perspective, browsing is "better" in IE.

The tabbed browsing in IE7 is a good feature (yes Firefox has always had it). Also, RSS support (again, Firefox already had it).

IMHO, Firefox will always be "better" since it is constantly being developed and incorporates the newer technologies faster than IE. It is also a lot more stable in early releases than IE.

That being said, my preferred browser continues to be IE. Yeah, I know, I'm a sucker!

Firefox is more stable and more secure.
You should also consider Opera (www.opera.com). The feature I like about Opera is that if you are downloading a file and your internet connections is lost you can resume the download (assuming you have not closed Opera). Firefox and IE both assume the file is done and you must start over. This saved me hours of time when I was trying to download a file through a flaky firewall that kept dropping the connection .
