It's obvious that any sort of toxins are not good for your unborn baby. When I was pregnant I gave up smoking, (cigarettes and hash) and drinking ALMOST completely. On my last pregnancy I was very very nauseous and life was not good. I couldn't even bear drinking water. The only thing that made me fell better was cannabis. I would smoke about half a joint in the evening and was able to eat a healthy meal and not throw up after it. My son is now six, was the heaviest of my three kids and is extremely intelligent!

Tobacco smoking and alcohol use cause significant harm to unborn children. Birth weights of babies born to women who use cannabis during pregnancy tend to be lower than expected. Using cannabis during pregnancy may also increase the risk of birth defects and abortion, and, like tobacco smoking, cannabis smoking seems to increase the risk of sudden infant death syndrome.
All the available information suggests that cannabis use in pregnancy is certainly harmful. Pregnant women should avoid using alcohol, tobacco or cannabis.

I work on a Neonatal unit and drugs in pregnancy are extremely harmful to your baby, he will suffer horrible withdrawal symptoms, be born small, higher risk of suffering from cot death, your pregnancy will be compromised as you are damaging your placenta so you may go into premature labour and many more. Just think whatever you take you are giving straight to your child, the placenta doesnt filter it out, would you give a baby cannabis?

FIONA S - should educate herself before making ignorant comments - no one becomes 'addicted' to marijuana, nor suffers 'Cold Turkey' as a result of withdrawal from canabis use. It is not a physically addictive drug, but people can develop a psychological dependancy on it. A baby would not be born an 'addict' if his/her mother smoked pot during pregnancy.
If a mother took heroin, or cocaine habitually during pregnancy this could lead to the baby being born an addict. Not to condone canabis use during pregnancy - I join the many others here in urging moms to stay sober during pregnancy due to all the problems already mentioned such as low birth weight, etc. But FIONA S was OTT.

probably alot! hey drugs are drugs and any are bad for you pregnant or not! You should be thinking of your baby rather than yourself. People give up smoking and drinking for a healthy baby i dont think smoking cannabis is a healthy option is it? do you really not care for your unborn child?!

If you are pregnant, you need to know that marijuana crosses the placenta and can affect your baby. Marijuana use during pregnancy has been linked to low birthweight in the baby and withdrawal-like symptoms including excessive crying, and tremors (shaking). Some studies suggest that children exposed to marijuana while in the womb are at increased risk of attention disorders and learning problems later in life.

My mother smoked dope to induce my birth and regularly throughout her pregnancy and as far as I know I wasn't shipped off to a detox centre on birth. At 9lb12oz I wasn't particularly small either.
Personally I'm much more upset that she smoked regular fags throughout her pregnancy; that's much more dangerous than a joint here or there which I doubt very much makes any kind of impact at all.

Worse case scenario?
Placental abruption. Dead baby.
Will you quit now????????
It is also believed that gastroschisis/exomphalus is linked to cannabis smoking mothers and fathers. Check this condition out on Google......
