Denial. Young people don`t (subconsiously) want to grow old so they try to ignore it whenever they see it and hope it never happens to them

Are you talking old people or old music? If you're talking oldies as in songs, those oldies aren't invisible to youth. They hear them all the time whether they realize it or not. So many new artists have record remixes or new renditions but you still hear the originals in movie soundtracks and on the radio. If you're talking old fogies, well, I think that has happened slowly but surely. There is a lack of respect for those older than us and it's sad because they have so much share to the youth. :(

It's a combination of things, I think it's lack of open mind, society's ideal image of what should be and what is normal, its people not keeping the memories alive, not sharing their experiences and pasts because of being so consumed with their daily lives. It's not the only thing people of all ages take for granted, it's much deeper. I grew up with a culture that taught me to aprpeciate the past as it teaches you to move forward, never forget what helped make you th eperson you are today because without that you are nobody. And where else to start but with the music that paved the way of today, how can anyone not appreciate, value or not take the time to know music of the past?

they aren't invisible... young people just have not a sense of morality yet.... they dont realize that one day that will be them.. We need to recognize the elderly as sources of enormous experience, youth has a tendency to believe they are the first ones to experience this pain, love, problem, etc. society is no more stratified than it was fifty years ago.....

That can be reversed, as many old people don't bother with Youth!
It is because as a human race we have advanced so much, socially/psychologically/technically/geographically etc etc.
And what youth now has, is very different from what older people had.
We cant understand how much harder their lifes were, and old people resent the ways that our lifes ahve got easier (in some ways)
nb, i have saying old and young but thts the terms you asked your question!

I totally agree! These days the songs really aren't about anything. Back then the songs meant something, they made you think, they taught you some sort of lesson or value. The oldies rule!

It is hormonal. As you get old you don't give off enough of the right ones to make people take notice of you, whether you have something worth listening to or not.
Simply put, you don't turn on people's minds any longer.
As elderly people loose their sense of smell anyway it doesn't matter to them!

I try to relate a little story.when the youngsters are being a nuisence. When you get as old as I am, there will be a young person the same as you, doing what you are doing to me to you
and you won't like it either.

Everybody likes to have someone they know they can relate to. The age gap makes it difficult to even sit down and talk, to find out what they might have in common.
