My aunt from Spain does the 'kiss-kiss' in the area of your ear, one kiss to one side and the next kiss to the other. I see European people do this as well.
In the American South the custom is the hug, loosely around the shoulders with a pat as a finish.
I see people in the American North try to imitate Europeans.

Here in Paris, it's one kiss on each cheek, but in other part of France it's 3 kisses (1 on the left cheek, then one on the right, then again one on the left), or 4 kisses (2 on each cheek, alternatively)
Girls kiss as a greeting. Boys usualy shake hands (some very good friend might kiss, gay people too)
A greeting between a boy and a girl is also a kiss
That's between friends or family.
At work, if I'm close to my colleague, if I think of them as friends, I kiss, otherwise I shake hands.
My American friends (from the USA) don't like kiss, they hug me.
My Egyptian friend shook hands with me.
My Mexican friend was happy to kiss me on the cheek ;o)

i could go without, only to be probability-free. Its humorous, despite the indisputable fact that the total greeting kiss difficulty is continuously perplexing to me. If its a chum, relative, or chum-of-my-boyfriend's whom i comprehend he's close to to, i will anticipate a "hi!" followed by ability of slightly hug and cheek p.c... yet there have been circumstances that i have "lengthy previous for the kiss on the cheek" and they offer the effect of being awkward and do not do the kiss difficulty. Then i believe style of stupid. Now I only opt for what i'm gentle with and enable the different man or woman communicate (actual or verbally) what's proper. desire that permits!

I have been in Argentina for sometime and can tell you this much: most people --regardless of sex-- rub cheeks, couples even homosexuals and lesbians greet each other with a rapid touch of the other`s lips they call it "piquitos" meaning "small beaks". In general very few people apply their lips to the cheeks of the other person and that gives place for a younger person to "kiss" an older one.
I am old fashioned, hence have a nice handshake

We kiss everyone. Once, usually on the cheek. Adults and kids, men and women, women and women, mums and dads. No one escapes the hello/goodbye kiss round here. North Manchester, England. Men tend to shake hands with eachother, although it has been known for them to give eachother a quick peck on the cheek too, after too many beers.

well in south Africa we kiss on the mouth (NOT SNOG, just kiss) followed with a hug, if it is 2 men it is generally just a hug with a pad on the shoulder or a handshake.
sometimes a father will still kiss his son goodnight or goodbye, but i have heard that it can be seen as sexual abuse in some countries?

The french do two kisses - one to each cheek - for friends and one kiss for new acquaintances, etc.
The english hug hello and goodbye - well, the teenagers do.
