I am thinking that someone has been trying to access my mail without my knowledge and unsuccessfully. Can this cause my account to be suspended. and how do I prevent this happening becuase I am desperate to get my mail

Some hosts will lock out an account if the account is being continually hit with failed log on attempts. This is a security precaution, to block the accounts being hacked. It would be unlikely that the account was suspended for this type of activity. If it happens, just contact the mail admin to have the account unlocked. You see this more often on commercial applications at big companies, not as likely for something like consumer webmail.

Most mailboxes are set to lock the account if there are too many unsuccessful login attempts in a given period.

This is for your protection. Otherwise, a hacker could just keep trying random passwords over and over until he or she happened on the right one.

You'll need to contact your service provider to reset the lock so you can log on again.

Yes...usually if you or someone else tries to log in so many times in a row unsuccessfully, it locks you out.

If the password can be changed, I would change it.
