It depends on what rate they are encoded at.

But, the rule of thumb is at 128 kbps, 1 minute is about a meg.

With most songs being about 4 minutes, that means a 1 gb will hold about 250 songs. A 2 gb about 500.

If they are encoded at 256 kbps, halve those numbers.


Hmmm...
It should be noted that most manufacturers will stretch the truth a bit by giving you the number of songs encoded at 64 kbps.

Just as a check, I looked at the properties of a group of my mp3s. 1.96 GBs was 480 songs.

Depends on the size of the song files. Normally 1 song is 3MB, so 1GB can hold about 300 songs...
2GB will be 900 songs.
The bigger the files, the less number of songs it can store.
This is applicable for any MP3 player.
Don't forget, if the MP3 Player has space of 1GB, normally u cannot have all to put in songs.. The program of the MP3 Player will take some space, so u will expect a space less than 1GB availble.
So think well before u buy a MP3 player!

1 gb can hold about 30 songs!!!

2GB= 1000 Songs
