Sounds like Acute Anxiety.
Do you work in a stressful workplace, are you a single mother. These can all lead to the symptoms you are describing, namely and Accute Anxiety Attack. Relax, spend at least 20 minutes a day relaxing. Reduce your exposure to the stresses.
Without knowing your daily situation etc, I cannot advise exactly the possible causes, or the relevant treatment. But the steps describe should help you get an idea of what to think about.

Have you been feeling under stress recently? Talking from experience, NOT a medical expert, I used to feel something similar to this when I suffered from panic attacks years ago. Also, jaw muscles can ache due to grinding or pressure while sleeping - another sign of stress. Sometimes physical results of stress can take weeks to show themselves. It's worth looking back and trying to see if there's a ny kind of pattern to these symptoms e.g. a link with a particularly tense or busy time in your year and then maybe trying out relaxation techniques; they worked for me.Seeking advice from a different doctor can sometimes be useful too; some are more sympathetic to stress related issues than others. Good luck

My daughter did this, along with some kind of strange hacking and they couldn't find a reason either.
A new pediatrician tried her out on some allergy med-Zyrtec specifically- and it straightened right out. Although-we do a combination of the meds and yoga. Seems as though it was a problem with seasonal allergies, which as you may know, tend to really peak during a few months out of each year depending on your locale.
Otherwise-learn some deep breathing techniques and try to quelch the stress in your life. You might also think about doing some cardio or yoga to learn to breathe better.

I used to get this briefly once a week not as often as you! It was very hard i couldn't even breathe out of my noise as I didnt feel like I had enough air!! Mine turned out to be the muscles between my ribs... this resulted in my chest not expanding enough resulting in not enough air coming in!! I done a few excersises a day around my chest area eventually my muscles expanded i no longer have this problem.. Hope all goes well

I think it is a form of tics, Bad habits. My son will do little things like that. He will pick something up doit for about a month maybe longer and then it is gone. Then maybe a few months later or almost a year later he does something else or the same thing again. I notice it when he gets uptight about something or usually about a month before school starts because he is getting bored.

My husband has this same problem. Sometimes it is worse than others. It is probably anxiety. It might be happening to you during times of stress...Try cutting out caffeine and alcohol for a while and see if that helps. Some other things that might help:
Exercise, plenty of sleep, and a healthy diet with a multivitamin taken daily.
I hope your symptoms get better soon...

This is based on the Yoga. If it does not cure 'you can have your money back'. Follow this breathing exercise for 15 minutes a day. Breath in and out through alternate sides of the nose. First breath in only through the left side, blocking the right side with the thumb. Hold the breath, open the right side and block the left, breath out through right. Repeat using the opposite sides for breathing in and out. For a CD look up website.

If you got difficulties to exhale, maybe you got asthma.
Asthma works this way :
you inhale 5 liters of air (for example), but you can't exhale more than 3, so next inhalation, you can only take 2, so you got the impression that you can't get enough air.
Go and see another doctor, to have another diagnostic

I would say it is a habit too.
If it starts and stops, then you should be able to work out what triggers the start of it, and what stops the episode.
If you could engineer the stop trigger before the natural end, you may find that you are more in control of it.
