I recently bought a nice quiet yearling mare. When in stall, she backs up against a wall and dumps, smearing down the wall, always in the same spot. When outside, she picks the barn door to do the same thing. How can I get her to stop that? It's the first thing I step in!

Try to wash the area as much as possible,, then scent the area with bleach, that way the horse won't smell his feces and urine and won't want to do his "business" by your door

Some horses just have their own "spot". I don't think you can potty train a horse to go where you want it to go. You could try a tie stall so there is only one place for it to go...

Your vet would probably know the most about it.

I think the best advice is get used to it, good luck! :-P

Well, you are really lucky! You might not think so but you are. Some horses have a specific wall or corner of their stall or pasture that they dump in. It is much easier to clean. Our horses don't dump in one spot but all over the place. She might grow out of it, or she might not. I really don't think you are going to be able to sway her on where she wants to dump. But good luck! ;)
