what you stated is a cliche, not a fact, therefore I'd have to say that it is not sustainable.

Violence is not sustainable because it escalates with each episode. Eventually, either those perpetrating the violence are going to destroy eachother and or themselves, or the violence will just fizzle out. As with any reaction, it must end when it runs out of fuel. I suppose in some cases the violence might fizzle out for a bit, the embers will smolder until there is more fuel added to rekindle it. In that sense it might be sustainable over a long period of time. If one is going to start a violent chain reaction, my suggestion is to utterly crush and destroy the enemy so that there is no one left to retaliate. (I do not advise this however).

Good question. I do feel people always choose to give violence for violence. Can it continue to be this way, yes of course. With narrow minded people in the world, there will always be retaliation with violence because (some) people don't have the common sense to talk things out.

Violence is sustainable as long as the violence doesn't claim so many lives that it can no longer be sustainable.

In the absence of courage, violence will propogate itself. But in the face of true moral courage, violence can not hope to succeed. Look at the lives of Martin Luther King or Ghandi. We need someone like that to step forward in the Middel East.

We all are capable of violence, we are animals and the majority of the world is accustomed to violence so, yes it will always be a part of our existence.
