Quite the opposite, Liberalism is about everybody being able to live there life as they see fit, so long as it doesn't inter fear with other peoples rights. We aren't against Christianity despite what Ann "the nut case" Coulter would have you believe. We just don't believe that religion has any place in government or public schools, because having religion in those areas infringes on a persons right to worship freely, or not at all.

Politics and religion are often at odds since both seek to control the individual. The really big difference is the preference of the individual.

In the case of a religion, you are free to choose to stay with the same religion your parents practiced, choose a different one, or choose not to believe.

Liberalism can also be seen as a choice, since you have the right to vote, but it isn't really. If the liberals win the vote, whether you voted for them or not, you are subject to the laws they pass. If you choose not to be a part, they force you by being at the safe end of a gun while putting you at the dangerous end.

So no, liberalism doesn't qualify as a religion. It is more of an enslavement than a religion.

I would not call it a religion. Not by any means. I would however argue that it is a way of life. And no, liberals and liberalism are not against Christianity or any religion for that matter. A true liberal would ask that any individual be able to practice whatever religion he/she wishes without any kind of fear or repercussion. Only right extremists would say that liberals are against Christianity (why, I do not know). However, yes it's true there are extremists on both sides of the spectrum (liberal, conservative). Is it fair to judge an entire group of people basis on an extreme few? I don' think so. But then again, who am I to judge!?

Dear Kelly,

Liberalism, no. I think that liberalism may even be helpful to Christianity in allowing for greater voice in expressing the great Truths of Christianity. It turns negative when it begins to posit that Freedom is Freedom from the requirement to follow any normative moral stricture - that Freedom to think or believe any falsehood or evil is true Freedom. This is in opposition to the True Freedom gained in following the commands of God.

I am somewhat "liberal" in many peoples eyes. However I am a Christian. I don't go to extremes in my "liberal" thinking as many do. Liberalism is not a religion it's simply a way of looking at things in life.

The fact that it is as Dogmatic and Conformist as any 'religion' makes liberalism almost a religion!

The essence of Christianity IS liberalism.
Free will, economic justice, forgiveness and redemption.
Who's reading the Bible to you, anyway?
And by the way, we are unwavering fundamentalists in the area of spell-check.
