For the past few weeks our backyard has been totally overrun by flies. I've thought maybe they're attracted to something, but they don't seem to be in one particular area. They are all over my cedar trees, the flowers in the garden and just hanging out on the grass. When myself or one of the kids walk out there you can see a huge cloud of flies lift off and then resettle again. We do have a dog but clean up the poop as soon as the deed is done, and always rinse the grass with the hose so the kids don't step in it and drag it through the house. I don't think they're hurting anything, its more of the gross out factor that makes me want to get rid of them. We bought this house 3 summers ago and have never had this problem before, and other than a few different flowers in the garden, everything in the backyard is the same. Any suggestions?

I would use a fogger with pest and insect spray. If that doesn't help, call an exterminator. For a small problem with flies, they will stay away from peppermint...like schnapps. In the garage or at a picnic, pour a little in a baby food cap or jar lid, display around the room or on the picnic table and relief will follow .

Flies like moist areas. If you are hosing down your lawn daily, there are probably spots that have gotten boggy. Flies like to hang out there, and there has GOT to be something they are eating. Maybe the amount of water is rotting some of the grass, and the flies are feasting on this and the other bugs eating it, as well. Maybe drying up the lawn will help...

Or, call Terminex.

some years back I stored a Praying Mantis as a puppy, and that they only consume stay nutrients! hence, I obtained the ability of gently taking photos stay flies in flight, or off any floor, so as that i ought to feed my Mantis unhurt and lively prey. maximum shifting incident became overdue one night whilst on arrival homestead i found my Mantis laying off its dermis. I watched, enthralled, for over an hour and that i shall continually remember about seeing my Mantis steadily make extra desirable and unfold its kind new rainbow-shimmering wings. next day I released it onto a grapevine in my backyard, the comparable backyard wherein I hence found a swarm of very tiny, recently hatched mantids! they are the cutest little creatures you need to ever think of.

Wow, they're obviously attracted to something. I'd call an exterminater in there to see what the source is. It's usually something dead right? Do you smell anything?

They may not be hurting anything but it's not normal and it may not go away, they may get worse
