Here's my top ten Mafia movies of all time (I'll leave out the Godfather trilogy and Scarface for this list)
1.Pulp Fiction (1994) by Quentin Tarantino
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110912/
Starring: John Travolta, Samuel L Jackson, Bruce Willis, Uma Thurman
Tagline: You won't know the facts until you've seen the fiction.
The lives of two mob hit men, a boxer, a gangster's wife, and a pair of diner bandits intertwine in four tales of violence and redemption. Quentin Tarantino's ``Pulp Fiction,'' is a film both monumental and immediately accessible, a 2 1/2-hour picture whose energy never flags. It is an exhilaration from beginning to end. It's the movie equivalent of that rare sort of novel where you find yourself checking to see how many pages are left and hoping there are more, not fewer.

2.Goodfellas (1990) by Martin Scorsese
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0099685/
Starring: Ray Liotta, Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci
Tagline: "As far back as I can remember, I've always wanted to be a gangster." -- Henry Hill, Brooklyn, N.Y. 1955.
The lowly, blue-collar side of New York's Italian mafia is explored in this crime biopic of wiseguy Henry Hill (Ray Liotta). As he makes his way from strapping young petty criminal, to big-time thief, to middle-aged cocaine addict and dealer, the film explores in detail the rules and traditions of organized crime. Watching the rise and fall of Hill and his two counterparts, the slick jack-of-all-trades criminal Jimmy Conway (Robert de Niro) and the brutish, intimidating Tommy DeVito (Joe Pesci, Best Supporting Actor), this true story realistically explores the core, blue-collar part of the mob. With his widely acclaimed direction and use of the superb soundtrack, Martin Scorsese takes viewers through a truly unique experience of epic crime drama. - Dustin B.

3.Ghost Dog- The way of the Samurai (1999) by Jim Jarmusch
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0165798/
Starring: Forest Whittaker, John Tormey, Cliff Gorman,
Tagline: Live by the code. Die by the code.
Forest Whitaker is Ghost Dog, a hitman trying to live by an ancient Japanese warrior code. Carrying out a hit for the mob, Ghost Dog spares a witness and finds himself in confrontation with his employers. This isn't the Mafia we've come to know through the movies. It's more like a club for ageing Italian-Americans who refuse to see that times have moved on. And they appear to be no match for Ghost Dog's high-tech tool kit and Zen stealth.

4.Casino (1995) by Martin Scorsese
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0112641/
Starring: Robert De Niro, Sharon Stone, Joe Pesci
Tagline: No one stays at the top forever.
After redefining the gangster film with GoodFellas, director Martin Scorsese, writer Nicholas Pileggi and star Robert De Niro re-teamed for the luxurious crime epic Casino (1995). Together they set out to expose the machinations of the mob in Las Vegas during the 70s but the studios were wary of its three-hour running length. Of course the gamble paid off and the film met with critical and commercial success. The story about greed, deception, money, power, and murder that occurs between two mobster best friends and a trophy wife over a gambling empire.

6.Reservoir Dogs (1992) by Quentin Tarantino
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0105236/
Starring: Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Chris Penn, Steve Buscemi, Lawrence Tierney
Tagline: Five Total Strangers Team Up For The Perfect Crime. They Don't Know Each Other's Name. But They've Got Each Other's Number
The film essentially revolves around a robbery that has gone wrong. Abandoning the conventional format of natural chronological storytelling, Tarantino creates a tapestry of flashbacks that cleverly build to a conclusion. This allows separate scenes to be showcased as individual vignettes that the cast exploit to the full.

8.The Untouchables (1987) by Brian De Palma
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0094226/
Starring: Kevin Costner Sean Connery and Robert De Niro as Al Capone
Tagline: AL CAPONE. He ruled Chicago with absolute power. No one could touch him. No one could stop him. - Until Eliot Ness and a small force of men swore they'd bring him down.
Set in Chicago during Prohibition, "The Untouchables" revolves around Eliot Ness (Costner), a rookie G-man who assembles a rough-and-ready team of unbribable agents to smash Capone's empire. Under the instruction of veteran Irish cop Jimmy Malone (Connery), Ness is forced to become as ruthless as his quarry, resulting in a series of thrilling action set-pieces and some brilliant banter courtesy of screenwriter David Mamet.
De Palma directs with effortless panache, most memorably in a pistol-packing homage to the Odessa Steps sequence from "Battleship Potemkin" on the staircase of Chicago's Grand Station. He also gets a career-best performance from Connery and a larger-than-life one from De Niro, in his element as the arrogant mobster.
