A Mother Gone Mad
"What Made Andrea Yates Snap?" Lots of people are asking this question after the tragic death of five children at the hands of their mother. In the throes of postpartum depression, Andrea Yates drowned her five children in the bathtub, one after the other. The media explanation is that her drugs were unwisely discontinued, leading to psychotic behavior. Others blame lack of support, fatigue and overwork. But no one is mentioning nutrition. Andrea Yates had five children in quick succession, with little time to build up nutritional stores between pregnancies. Almost certainly she was on the standard American diet, lacking fat-soluble vitamins and long-chain fatty acids. Is she to blame? Or does blame rest with the whole medical establishment that has promoted industrial agriculture and soul-numbing lowfat diets all these years? Had she been treated with cod liver oil instead of antipsychotic drugs, this tragedy might have been avoided.

I'm sure she really did have some mental problems. BUT, she knew right from wrong when she killed her kids. She called her husband AND the police after she CHASED them down and drowned them.

Why call the police if you acted in the best interest of your kids?

She should be held accountable. Maybe a good compromise would be an asylum for the criminally insane. After she gets well from being "legally insane," she should be turned over to the prison system.

Premeditated or not, anyone who could do something like that to their own child (or anyone else for that matter) definitely has some screws loose. Yes, I think she's insane. Very very insane.

No, I don't agree with that decision. Was she insane when she gave birth? Those kids didn't ask to be brought into this world. She killed them one by one. Sounds like the action of a sane person to me.

There is no doubt in my mind that she is one insane bitc*!
Actually, because of my education and life experiences, I truly believe anyone who kills another human being is an insane son-of-a-bitc* and should be locked away for good or sentenced to death (preferably).
Our obligation to each other, as fellow human beings, is to isolate the insane from us, in agreement, to insure all the innocent are protected from these "lost" soul's continued insanity.
After behavior determination my larger concern is for the housing, feeding and treatment of these types of humans ...
I really don't want to, and shouldn't have to, pay for their incarceration (make the bitc*es and bastar*s work in a carefully guarded invironment to pay for their debt to society for keeping them alive).

Yea she should be held accountable. She killed 5 kids. If she were truly insane as she claims she wouldnt have waited for hubby to go to work - she would have tried with him there.

She should be in prison, not a hospital. She was tired of being a mommy,so she killed her children. Then used insanity as an excuse. The lawyer who defended her should be branded in the face and left out in the streets to starve. Both of them are the lowest form of life there is.

No I dont agree and yes, she should be held accountable, her "insane" story is nothing but a bunch of bullshit, she knew what she was doing!

I don't think it was premeditated, but she did know she did wrong because right after it happened she called her husband and let him know about it, and in the state of Texas, she should've gotten the death penalty.
