As some coming from out of the West I want to highlight the best characteristic of the West (there are many good things in the West):
The West is the only culture that encourages the individual to distance himself/herself from the powers to be, and thus encourages criticism and questioning.
This is the source of freedom, and this is why prosperity in the West is so appealing to friends and foes.
