You must have an Hp or Compaq. Mine does the same thing, I wish I had the money to throw it in the trash and buy something else. I have noticed that it hangs up most often if I shut it down directly after closing a program. I have noticed that if I give the program 10-15 seconds to completely close before I attempt to shut the computer down it doesn't hang up as much.

How many programs do you have auto starting and running from startup? These programs must be closed when the computer is trying to shut down and can cause the hang up when they are all trying to close at one time. This Windows site is about turning off the programs that do not need to run from startup. This will speed up your start up and shut down and reduce the hang ups. Go here and scroll down to Remove Autostart Programs. The rest of the page is a good read also

Your question is in complete bu I will try. You have too many programs running. Look down in the right hand corner of your screen and see a little tool bar. Every icon is another program running. The more you have the longer it takes to shut down. This is for a dell, I cant help you with Macs.

many things can cause that, but one of the most common is too much data stored on the desktop. You could try moving that stuff to a folder on c: and see if it helps. Just put a shortcut to it all on the desktop.
