It is only partly due to kings and princes, but partly due to presidents, and partly due to dictators and ayatollahs. There was an unsuccessful effort to unify back in the 1960's called the United Arab Republic, in which Iraq, Syria, and Egypt began to unify, but it was unsuccessful for many reasons. Unification is always difficult because different regions will have different interests, and any unification must take the freedom and choice of each individual into account.

Americans probably understand unification better than most of the world, since America itself is the result of a unification when it was formed in 1776. Read your history of the United States, and your history of Syria and the U.A.R. to gain a better understanding of this issue, and the results of two different models of unification.

In the end, the U.S. cannot and SHOULD not get involved in unifying Arab states. Only the Arab states can do that.

The so called royalty in the arab world is actually the worst kind of facist regimes. Have you ever tried to bring back the dead body of a colleague that died while working, from Saudi Arabia, or Qatar. Planning a jail break is easier perhaps. For them the misrepresentation of the true spirit of the relegion they proclaim to uphold is a norm. Having double or even triple standards for the masses in their fiefdoms is a matter of routine. Unification, and truely democratising is some thing that they will avoid like the plague.

I do, the sheiks and kings want nothing more than their citizens to focus on israel because when they do, the people don't realize the injustice of a bloodline based society. islam has been exposed to the world for some time now, but is only beginning to be exposed to it's followers.

It's actually very simple: Everyone is scared to loose their position (King, princes and presidents)... That's why there's no unity. I highly doubt any of them would step down from their status of power
