You should probably ask the question the other way around... but... why shouldn't they? No one gives their money away without good reason; if a business firm is paying someone, its because they are understood to be worth it. People running a business could probably go out and start their own business and get rich, so you have to pay them enough to work for you instead of working for themselves, or someone else.

because if they are that good, their actions generate sufficient revenue for their companies that means that they deserve that money. If I pulled off a deal that generated 200 million dollars, I would expect to recieve a large slice of that.
