Why does my internet run really slow on some websites, but really fast on others? I have a cable connection and Firefox.

Depends on the server load, and also on the path to the server.

What the others didn't mention is that your cable connection is a shared connection with others in a certain area near your residence. This may have some minor factor as well. The best time to get the fastest speed is early in the morning, or later at night. Since my cable connection is extremely fast, it's not very noticeable to me at anytime.

78% of the Internet actually run Unix clones, like, GNU/Linux, BSD, that server 8 to 50 times faster!!!

So, Microsoft.com, Hotmail.com and MSN.com sped up, last year, when they switched to using Linux on their 30,000 + servers!!!

Yahoo.com runs on FreeBSD,

Google.com runs on 100,000 Linux computers, in clusters.

The Fortune 1,000 corporations run Linux, as does 165 world governments.

You can test drive a LiveCDrom, that boots in the CD, runs in a RAM disc, and leaves no trace on the hard drive, unless you press the 'install' icon...

And, a really great firewall box (using an old computer box), that keeps the cable connection alive, gets your email every 10 minutes, filters out ALL the spam, and blocks wifi and evil hackers from illegal access, is http://ipcop.org

I think its because the website servers are not all created equal, some just run faster/better than others

it could be that you have a lot of spyware and stuff on you computer or that you need to run delete cookies and other stuff off of your computer. One other possibility is that some pages have a lot of java or like flash on their pages and it takes longer to load, i would suggest downloading something like spybot and adaware if you dont already have then, then go to internet options and dlete you browsing history and cookies, hope it works out.
