Oh alpacas are so beautiful.
I'm not sure about how they're doing in Scotland but I know in the US they are very expensive.
What do you want your alpaca for?
Do you want it to make high quality fleece for profit?
Or are you more interested in a pet that you can enjoy being around?
Pets will be the most reasonable. You can usually get a neutered male for a lot less then a bred female or an intact male.

In the past I have always visited more alpaca sites based in the US, but I tried to find some international ones for you too.

Sorry I can't help you more. But at the very least, those sites have some good information for you.
From what I have heard, they are easy to keep and care for.

They smell worse than sheep and they don't look half as good either, like malformed llamas. But, if you like them then I suppose keep two or three for company in a reasonably sized field.

I don't know where you can get them, but they're fab! Why not? I'm a llama girl myself, but they're close enough! Go for it. They're great fun!
