Right now there is a terrible heat wave in the northeastern US. Temperatures of up to 104 F (30 C). In winter it can get to -2 F (-19 C). Plus, of course, there is humidity to make it feel hotter in summer, and wind chill to make it feel colder in wihter. I like that we have varied seasons here, and the extremes are not as bad as in other places, even in the US. I have friends in Arizona, and Minnesota, and they really get hit!

Which do you like least? I think on balance I like the heat less. You can always get under the covers in the cold, but you can't do much if it's too hot. As I age I like the cold less and less, though. And at least there's no snow to shovel, or ice to fall on! I need more insulation for my drafty old house!

Any comments? Thanks.

I prefer extreme cold. You can always dress for cold & it's easier to 'warm up' then 'cool off'.

It's not fun working outside when it's -10F but you can. When you work outside in 100+ temps it puts a far greater toll on your body.

P.S. Plus when it's cold you can use your porch as a fridge for your beer :)

For me, extreme cold is much worse. I love the heat - although I must admit, I can do without the humidity. The temps are fine, I wish it could be this warm all year long. I HATE (underline twice) our cold winters! with a passion. I was born and raised in Toronto and have lived here all my 30+ years. I have gone through many years of ice, snow and the extreme cold temps Toronto has fallen to. But in all fairness, recently our winters haven't been so bad. Maybe within the next 20 years our winters won't be like winter. I wonder if we in Toronto are exchanging our cold winters, with milder ones from say, the southern USA? If I could ever afford to, I would live in Toronto may. to nov. - then south from nov to may. Believe me, I am working on THAT plan !

To me extreme heat is worse, I'd prefer cooler temps any day of the year. Of course I live in Germany and most of us don't have air conditioning, so when it's hot there's not much that can be done to cool off, it sucks. Plus at night I like to sleep covered up, but when it's too hot to sleep with covers, I don't sleep well. I sleep much better when the air is cool but I'm snuggled up under my blankets. Of course I'm saying this and I've never really lived any place where it is extremely cold, I might change my tune if I ever do.

Extreme cold is worse! I'm on the east coast right now and it's about 104 degrees, but it feels like 115. If it's hot, you can go into a pool, sprinkler, water hydrant, beach , etc, even if you lose power. When it's cold, if you lose power, you won't have heat which is terrible considering how cold it can get && most of them time you need heat to survive in negative number weather. You can't go in a pool to warm yourself up in the winter. Even with blankets, it still is verryyyy cold.

I prefer extreme cold i have friends in Fairbanks Alaska and it goes down to -40 degrees that's about average and it's pretty windy too. I think the heat make you more exhausting though then the cold. You can be nude and still be hot and be in a pool even and still be hot but at least when you are cold you can put layers of clothes on to stay warm and there's always blankets and lots of them. If it's to hot people start seeing things i never heard of to many if any people seeing things from the cold.

I would have to say I would tolerate heat better. Where I live it gets to 105 every year with heat indices over 110. I have never felt temps of sub-zero and would not know how to tolerate it. I hate enough when it's 20 outside, much less below 0. Obviously, I prefer temps between 50 and 75 just like everyone does, but I am more adjusted to heat tolerance.

sorry we feel the extreme heat which is unbearable by the chennai resident so extreme heat is worst but too the extreme cold also extremity is good for nothing so anything which is normal is good for allthing so the temperature which is not too hot or too cold is good for all things in the world we see the heat of 45degree celcius but its good that we never have the cold of like that in winter

i like the cold less... but i'm skinny, so it's harder for me to stay warm... plus it's easier to get out and do something in the summer even if it's really hot, but in the winter it's usually wet and cold (at least where i live) and i don't wanna be out in that!!!

Extreme heat is worse than extreme cold. Because the heat will kill you faster than the cold.

Bufalo NY
Issues with the winter months, beyond the inability to go outside and enjoy free time.
The only thing to do in winter; the mall, the movies, supermarket ... yeah not good.
Another major problem, no humidity dries the skin to painful levers, that s really bad.
