both have their own advantages and disadvantages.my own personal choice would be a single storey building as i feel a home is sacred and you need to have as much privacy as you can.but sooner or later people like me will have to change and vote for multistorey building as the available land is limited and the demand for land for construction is increasing drastically.
also gone are the days when a person's house is his castle.day by day people are becoming more and more dependent on each other and no one can afford to live in a watertight compartment

i think it is a single storey building.because it has less chances of being destroyed by natural or man made calamities.i think u remember the W.T.C crash!!

and you don't have to fork out money to buy a ladder so that the kids can elope!
