Most likely you are over feeding the fish. The fish should eat all the food off the top, very little if any should hit the bottom. Even a heavily stocked tank should not have an odor.
Make sure you do regular maintenance. 1/4 of the water at least every month. Never change all the water unless absolutly necessary! The tank goes through a cycle, bacteria build up to take care of waste, if you change all the water, you loose all that good bacteria.

That's really gross. Your fish tank should not smell.
Do regular 25% water changes- every 10 days or so. Feed once a day and only as much as the fish eat in a few minutes. Net out anything left over. Check your filter- rinse the intake tube and mechanical parts. Change the media inside. Even buy an additional filter and throw that one on the other side.
Poor fish. If it smells then your water parameters have got to be out of control.

Clean the fish tank out more regularly and do not over feed your fish, as the uneaten food contaminates the water hence the pong! Aslo do you have the right kind of weed in the tank as this helps to oxygenate the water and makes for a healthier environment for your lovely fish? I seem to remember that the water flow for keeping tropical fish is very important as well so check it out.
Buy a book for the tropical fish keeper, it will be full of tips and wrinkles. Worth investing in when you consider how much it must have cost you to set up your tropical fish tank.

If you haven't replaced the carbon in your filter media, do so. That's one of its primary uses (to get rid of odors).
Otherwise, a partial water change may help. You should be doing betwee 20-40% every week as is.
Make sure you have good surface agitation. Stagnant water due to not enough movement isn't cool.

An aquarium should not stink. You need to do regular water changes and make sure your tank is not over stocked or that you have anything dead that is decomposing in the tank.
