DO NOT FEED ICEBERG LETTUCE!!!! Iceburg lettuce should not be fed to rabbits for two reasons. First, it contains almost no nutrients, and secondly because it can cause digestional upset because it is too watery. Instead, feed dark leafy lettuces like romain lettuce. Those have less water content and are packed full of great nutrients. Please make sure ALL lettuce and vegetables are properly washed,to clear any pesticides!!
If too much fruit or vegetables is fed and left in the cage this should be removed and replaced the next day to avoid it being left and becoming mouldy.
Some Fruit, vegetables and herbs that are safe to feed a rabbit are listed below:
Apple (seedless)

Feeding rabbits lettuce is fine. The problem is when you are feeding them just lettuce. Lettuce has a high water content and not alot of nutritional value (particularly iceberg). i am no vet but we have three rabbits. When one rabbit was having digestive problems and we took him to the vet this was her advice.
Rabbit food is good but it is more like a treat. It has some nutritional value but very little fiber. Lettuce also has a little nutritional value but not enough. She said the best thing you can feed the rabbits is a large supply of clover from the yard, combined with a very little bit of rabbit food everyday. You can supplement that with lettuce and carrots as a treat but in small quantitities.
The trick is to give them very little of other things so they will eat the clover all up.

Tell your friend to read a book. Lettuce is perfect for rabbits, I use to have 5 rabbits and they had lettuce everyday, (with other vegatables) and they were happy and healthy.
Trust me Lettuce is fine for a rabbit.

No, lettuce has no nutritional value it can easily lead to diarrhea because of it’s high water content this can be fatal to rabbits.
Romaine lettuce is safe but in small amounts, again it has no nutritional value.
Too many greens can give the animal bloat or diarrhea or colic
That said they should have fresh fruit or vegetables daily e.g. carrot, apple, parsnip, cauliflower

Lettuce and other greens are fine as long as the quantities aren't too large as it can cause stomach upsets. Good to use to supplement a proper dry rabbit food.

As far as veggies go, the only ones I would avoid are cabbage (and cabbage related veggies) along with lettuce, celery and asparagus. Cabbage is too gassy and can hurt them while celery is too stringy. Lettuce has no nutritional value at all and asparagus must be too pungent for them. They don't seem to like it. Rabbits do love carrots and carrot tops, broccoli, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, spinach, bok choy, green peppers, radish tops, watercress, and cilantro.
