To know how to care for your liver, it is helpful to understand what your liver does, its function, in the body.
It is the largest organ in the body and acts as a filter that removes waste products and toxins from the blood. It acts as a storage for iron as well as some vitamins and minerals. It produces bile that aides in digestion and regulates levels of some chemicals like hormones, cholesterol and sugars.
Knowing this, you should be able to see that your first line of defense in liver care is to watch what you put into your body. Drugs, alcohol and excessively fatty foods are hard to process and overtax this organ with repeated use and abuse. Environmental contaminants are also a huge factor these days... heavy metals and chemical toxins we breathe in smog and consume in our foods can add up and become a problem as well.
To combat the things we have no control over, or chose to do in spite of knowing it causes damage (like drinking alcohol), a good support program is just common sense. Personally, I drink a tea made from milk thistle and dandelion on a fairly regular basis. I add turmeric and garlic, in small amounts, to a lot of my foods. They are both 'miracle' drugs for me! I use vitamins that are good anti-oxidants such as "C" and "E" along with eating plenty of fresh vegetables that I grow myself.
Even if you don't have room for a garden you can grow some things in pots as house plants! Herbs like cilantro and basil make a beautiful addition to any apartment and are easy to grow. Swiss chard, various greens, peppers, patio tomatoes and even squash will grow if you can get enough light to them.
I have known people with advanced liver disease that have had good results with taking a tablespoon of good quality, cold pressed olive oil with the juice of 1/2 fresh lemon daily. This did not replace their medications, but was in addition to them.
A caution is advisable.... check with your doctor if you are on any medications before adding herbs or even vitamin's to your diet. Some are reactive with certain medications and should be used with caution. Also, do your own research. You will gain more by doing some searches and will find much broader, more complete information than anyone can possibly give you here!

The liver is a very hardy organ, it can regenerate itself, but it can only handle so much abuse. The liver is involved in the digestion of fats and the detoxification of impurities in the blood.
Things that can RUIN your liver: Drinking too much alcohol, doing too many drugs, eating too many fatty foods, and seriously when people try to overdose on Tylenol, they pretty much ruin their liver's forever... not many people know that. Using Tylenol daily will ruin your liver, or taking one large dose will do the trick too... but not right away, it will be ruined years later.
To take care of your liver, eat a healthy diet with moderate to low amounts of fat, and don't ingest toxins like alcohol, drugs, and caffeine even.
Good luck.
