I keep on seeing questions from people asking us where they can find free films, games, music, blah-blah. It's nice to occasionally get things for free but there is a limit to how much the entertainment industries can give away.
End of rant.

Don't worry about the young people bit. That's just me acting like an old codger, it adds to the fun.

And to Mike: Someone has to pay for all that art you're expecting to get for nothing. I'm putting my old comic strips on the net free of charge but I expected people to pay for them when they came out. This stuff doesn't come out of thin air.

I get the point.
It's nice to get free stuff, but it's addictive to try and find everything for free. Younger people don't have as much money to spend either. They still manage to spend a fortune on games and music, it's so often over-priced too. The latest games consoles cost far too much money, for what you get.
It's unfair on the less well known artists, when they lose out on revenue from sales. I think the bigger, richer ones, could afford to lose a few sales (whether it's right is another matter).

Free isn't neceassarily good for the following reasons
(1) Copyright - if everyone distributed all music and movies free there would be no new movies or music and no-one would get paid for doing it and hence no new music/movies
(2) If very few people do not pay then it pushes up the price for the people who do want to pay and that isn't fair at all.

I pay for the things I want but I am not averse to finding free things on the internet when I'm bored. Generally I don't go after free games or films because they aren't very good sometimes and you get what you pay for.

Why pay when you can get it for free through illegal means? Copyright law seems to mean little to people nowadays...they are essentially trying to get material that someone else sweated over to make, and get it in such a way that the creator does not get compensated. That's like hiring someone to work for free. I see it all the time with my students. They are not looking for corporate freebies, they are looking for sites that allow for the illegal file-sharing or download of these copywritten materials.

well i'm not sure if i count as a young person (26).. but free stuff is always nice.. what with bills.. trying to clean up student debt.. credit cards.. rent..!
a free movie.. or an album isn't to bad now and then :)
however i will go buy an album if i really wish to support the band..
the movie industry doesn't really need my help i don't think.. least not the american one..

art should be free to the people, since all that you seemed to mention was things of an artistic nature.
i don't expect free groceries or a free car, although that would be nice...
