Im lebanese so i know my country quite well. Lebanons politics is the most complicated i have ever seen. Its very sectarian. You never see a christian with a muslim leade or vice versa. Lebanon had a civil war that split the christians and muslims. in 2005, a former lebanese prime minister was assasinated causing a major shift in the political landscape. Also to the guy who said u didnt spell it right its loubnan or lebnan in arabic. Anyway christians managed to unite with muslims in the parliamentary elections against a christian politician. That christian politician who i support then ended up allying himself after the elecctions with hizballah after he managed to come up with an agreement to disarm them and make them more of a political party. Then on July 12 Hizballah kidnapped 2 soldiers in Lebanese territories to trade prisoners but israel decided to unleash a military operation it had planned for a while. After that you probably know what happened. Hizballah will never be disarmed by force since they are a guerilla force so the war will end when israel realize that what they are doing is useless since the international comunity is becoming more aware of the massacres and cold blooded murder taking place.

Republic of Lebanon - Native English speakers use the word Lebanon. Native Arabic speakers transliterate the Arabic word. The Wikipedia says: the name Lebanon (also "Loubnan" or "Lebnan") is derived from the Semitic root "LBN", meaning "white", a reference to snow-capped Mount Lebanon.
In the first days of the conflict Israel bombed Hezbollah militia forces and strongholds which were situated in southern Lebanon (mostly in civilian areas). More recently, Hezbollah's militia forces are mainly operating from their underground bunkers.
I guess Mount Lebanon will survive. But maybe little else.

That part of the middle east has been in an almost constant state of war for thousands of years (Romans, Crusades, Ottoman Empire, European Colonial Expansion, Arab/Israeli wars).
Perhaps we should look at as a never ending war with occasional periods of peace.

I'm reading the book "From Beirut to Jerusalem", fascinating, and great book. What it has helped me realize is that Lebanese people have been fighting with each other for years and years, they have had numerous civil wars and there has been a clash of religions for years. The future does not look good.

The future of Lebanon is in the hands of Hezbollah.
And if it returns the two soldiers, the war may also end.
Why can't you advise them?
