Do you mean:

"It took my friend, Dave, and I 2 days to dig 2 holes x deep. How long will it take 1 person to dig 2 holes, one x deep and one 0.5x deep?"

In this case, assuming you both work at the same pace, you would have both dug 1 hole each in 2 days, so you dug x deep in 2 days.

Therefore if there is one of you digging a hole x deep, that one would take 2 days, and the one 0.5x would take half as long, 1 day.

This would mean it would take 3 days altogether.

Are you digging the top half of the hole or the bottom half? If you are digging the bottom half of the whole, how to you plan to do it without digging the top half?

Are these metric holes, or imperials holes, because they are ever so slightly different and are governed by the Weights & Measures (Holes) Regulations 1982.

And another thing - what sort of earth-moving equipment are you using? Are you going to stop for lunch breaks? Are you going to stop every five minutes and rest on your shovels? Do you work for Thames Water (in which case the answer is you will never finish)? Are you including the time taken to do an HSE Risk Assessment of the project?

As a complete aside, did you know that working in a hole below ground is actually covered by the HSE regulations on Working at Height? It's true. Working at ground level is as well.

I'll stop there before someone falls asleep or lynches me.

That depends on who did most of the digging, and if the holes are the same size.

Seriously, if you and dave both dig at the same steady rate and the holes are all equal size, then it took you both 1 day to dig 1 hole, and each of you 2 days to dig one hole. Each of you digs at the rate of half a hole a day and it takes Dave three days.

Definitely longer. Since he injured his leg too. A half hole is also a full hole and a full hole is any number of alf holes. Holes conduct electricity by being jumping spacepods for electron. The protons don't jump because they are held tightly by neutrons, but electrons, being much smaller (like kids) jump around the more energy level they have. When they jump they leave a hole (which dave may not have dug) in their place... like the hole in a parents heart when the kid leaves home.... only since the parent (proton) is positive, this hole is positive. Kids are naturally negative and this accounts for juvenile crimerate in new york, where dave may be digging the hole.

However, 1/2 a hole is a difficult concept, even for meta physicists like me, so, yes, definitely dave will take longer.

If me & dave are equally same efficient, then only it shall take for dave to dig 1 and a half hole in 3 days. Otherwise can not be told correctly.

normally at 2 days for 2 holes,it would be 1 day for a hole for 2 people, but for 1 person 2 days time for 1 hole if: the holes are the same diameter and depth as the 2 holes used for timing 2 days to dig them

4 hours. Because, even with his bad leg, your mate will get on with it. He won't keep stopping for a cup of tea and a cigarette. He'll start at 8.30 and be finished in time to go home for lunch. Knowing Dave's missus, he needs a long lunch hour. He gets a little more than lunch, when he goes home! Hell, the lunch is just to give him the energy to enjoy dessert. That's why he is so much fitter than you. He stays of the cigarettes, gets plenty of exercise on the job and on the job, not to mention digging holes! I bet Dave will have time to go to the hospital, have a tetanus, and still dig another hole after he's finished his dessert with his lovely wife........ I may pop around and see her later after he's gone back to work....
