America is one of the worst of in the industrialised world for providing foreign aid RELATIVE TO WEALTH.

The link below gives the figures for aid as a PERCENTAGE OF GNP:
http://www.godweb.org/stingy2.htm
(OECD figures)

If you include PRIVATE CONTRIBUTIONS the US only moves up to 15th in the ranking.

Although in purely numerical terms the total given by America may be high, should a millionaire give the same amount to charity as someone living under a bridge

Wow some nasty Americans out there. Remember Americans are allowed to have their own beliefs and not everyone agrees, you will get a uneven response on this question. Bill and Melinda Gates Billionaires have provided shots to stop disease on their own with their own fortune. In America the freedom to work hard and earn money and spend money exist and so does freedom of choice why would you want the rich who earned money to give a charity if they chose not too? We do not force people to go against their will or punish the innocent or fortunate in America
Americans provide billions of dollars in aid so I do not understand the listing since when you read it is states thousands. Not only does money get provided but the USA provides food, engineers, troops, equipment, and medical personnel and supplies. For every person over seas helping risking their life for mankind what price tag do you put on this? How much is their life worth? Just because something is on the web does not make it a fact or correct I would reevaluate your source. I am not ashamed that we help other countries or that we try to help countries in crisis. Are you?

Your assertion simply demonstrates that you can show anything with statistics.

The United States contributes more real funds in all categories than nearly all other countries combined. The reason for this is tha the United States is a capitalist country which generates new value and is self sustaining. From this United States knows that simply giving money isn't the answer. Other countries must learn to generate their own wealth.

Other countries want money from the United States, then come up with good investments and the money will cascade into your country and create more jobs than you have people.

Not especially. We yanks may have our bad points and may well owe some amends to many peoples around the world. Where is the website listing all the apologies made by the British empire for centuries of abuse aand use and exploitation of half the world?

so how much has your country given? Why should we give money or aid to countries that refuse to help themselves?Look at the people that live in cardboard shacks-what are they doing? They could at least find a hill and dig a ditch so that they're sewer waste runs downhill instaead of out the front door. They rely on aid instead of doing anything to better themselves.

No not ashamed at all...we try our best to survive here. We sometimes depend on imported goods but atleast we are free to do basically anything. Thats why I can't picture living anywhere else then America. I can go outside without having to cover myself completely and I wouldn't have to worry about stepping on a land mine. I don't have to worship a man for being the first being on earth. I don't have to believe in one religion based on what part of the world I live in. Its just good to be able to choose who you want to be without being repremanded and penalized for being who I am. Even though our industry isn't so good we still make ends meet.

Here's the thing. the only americans who care about supplying foreign aid are government officials who wnt to be friends with the government officials of the rest of the world. Your average american could care less and would rather leave the rest of the world to die in the cespool they've created.

In closing, deal with it.
Thank you.

Considering there are around 193 countries in the world, 15th isn't so bad.

I'm against using tax dollars to give foreign aid--it's unconstitutional.

Now if private citizens want to raise the money and send it, that's fine.

Nope, not ashamed - I have nothing to do with it personally.

Besides, consider the fact that we have to spend all our money on our military so that we can police the world. Add that dollar amount in and I bet that chart would look different.
