Technically, the Sun is the closest star to earth. It is approx.
.000016 light years from the earth. The next closest star is Proxima Centauri @ 4.2 light years followed by Alpha Centauri A @ 4.3.
Hope that helps - have a good day!

Well it depends on what kind of star you are talking about. If you are talking about those twinkling lights in the night sky then the sun is the closest star to the earth. But if you are talking about a MOVIE STAR then I would have to say its Verne Troyer. He's the actor that plays Mini-me in Austin powers and he is by far the shortest star that I know of and therefore is the closest to the earth. ;-)

The Sun. =P

Actually, Alpha Centauri is the closest star if you discount the sun. It is about 4.3 light years away.

BTW, I really should pounce on you for saying "most closest" but I'm not going to. I mean, I know you're not an English teacher but come on! It even sounds wrong!

Technically, the sun is the closest star to the earth. It is approx.
8 light minutes away from the earth. This means it would take light
8 minutes to travel the distance.
The other star you are referring to is Alpha Centauri and is 4.3 light
YEARS away. I hope this settles the debate.

There are theories of alternate universes and dimensions, so in an alternate universe or dimension we could be inside of a sun right now, we just wouldn't be able to see or feel the effects of it because it is on another plane. But, as for known stars, The Sun.
