Gasoline will be phased out by some new energy source before that happens. And, like others have said, it would never happen anyway based on economics.

Never, if gas prices continue to rise, demand for automobiles will drop, reducing the auto companies' economies of scale. The price of an automobile will rise as well.

Never, as your need already more that the equivalent of a full tank of petroleum to make the plastic, lubricating oil, other fluids, paint used for a typical car, plus the fuel needed to carry all the parts and components required to the car assembly plant, and deliver the finished car to the dealer.

Never. The price of gas raises the price of everything else. It might just get to the point where we all find ourselves walking, riding a bicycle or for that matter riding a horse to where ever we need to be.
