Do I have to put up with constant noise from nieghbours in a block of flats?

My wife and I have lived here for 10 years. They moved in 2 months ago. Her 5yr old daughter runs up an' down the flat, jumps up an' down on a wooden floor, from 6.30am till 9.00am. Then from 3.30pm till 9.30pm, when she actually goes to school. Otherwise it's all day every day. I've written to the landlord on 2 occasions, once asking him to put floor coverings on thier floor as thier paying the same rent we are an' our floors are covered. Once more to complain about the noise, he seems to think she's not breaking any laws.I've also spoken to her on several occasions about the problem. "What can I do, she's only a child an' children need to play!" We even gave her our old fully automatic washing machine because she couldn't afford one. What are my options besides moving out, isn;t there some law about not desturbing your nieghbours ?????

You would have to check with local ordinances in regards to NOISE.

Write a letter to you landlord explaining your problem. Have him come up with a solution. This is his problem to fix not yours.

The family might not be breaking any "laws" but it is breaking their tenancy rules & regulations. They could be evicted if this continues.

Make sure you keep a log of times, dates & happenings. Send copies to your landlord.

okay, you have proven yourself to be a good neighbour so lets
go the extra mile. If its not asking too much sometimes if we
feel irritated about something the noise sounds 100 times
louder to us. I would suggest you try to tolerate the noise by
doing something to relax yourself whenever the noise occurs
like switching on the radio to enjoy some music or do
something you really enjoy so that the noise would slowly
stop bothering you. It is difficult in our society to expect a
quiet environment especially when we live in flats. I used to
live next to a railway track. It bothered us when we first moved
there then we learnt to wave to the passengers to entertain
ourselves and soon it never even bothered us and we stop
noticing the trains passing. Try this, its a blessing if we can
be tolerant, as one day we might have grandkids creating the
same and we would hope our neighbours would understand
us too. God bless...try to overcome this, it just needs a bit
more time to get used to it. Dont move, you are used to this
neighbourhood and it would be a shame as you would miss
your friends and there is no insurance that the move would
prove to be for the better. Soon the kid will grow up and spend more time at school and this would be history.

No..... the only noise I hear is from cows.... I live on a farm....

Gets annoying sometimes.....

If I lived in flats and had noisey neighbours I wouldnt complain, because I wouldnt want them to complain when I....
- Start up my V8 at 6am on a sunday and rev it up, just for fun
- Bring some mates and lady friends back to my place at 2am Saturday morning to listen to some loud Music whilst intoxicated
- Oh and I wouldnt want them to complain when I play knock and run through the building

Check your lease.

Your landlord has to provide that. He is legally obliged to make your stay enjoyable. If a talk with your neighbour does not work out take it up with him.
