The moon is sometimes orange because of the particulate matter in the atmosphere that is between your eye and the moon, thereby creating an overlay effect.

As for the sky, don't you think blue is a pretty color?

Basically the light rays which consists of combination of different colors coming from Sun gets reflected from the gas molecules and dust particles present in the atmospheres.

The blue part (shorter wavelength light) of the light gets absorbed the most by gas particles present in the air which then radiates it in all directions. Thus you see the blue sky!

Sometimes moon or setting sun looks orange/red. This is due to most of blues and green part of light gets scattered and the only part of light that is reaching you is the red part which had a longer wavelength then blue.

The moon is orange at times because of the way the light refracs around the atomsohpere and its location at that time. It is actually light from the sun.

All of that is covered in basic science in high school.
