That is the prime example of "me-ism." A driver sees a lane ending sign and speeds up because they are more important than you. They hurry up because they just have to be first in line and not get behind anyone.
The people who let them in usually have no choice. They have to make way for the "me-first" driver for the greater issue of safety. I raced forward to cut this one guy off who was trying to race in front of me, and he almost ran me off the road. So I said to myself, "you know what? It's not worth it. It's not worth almost dying because some jerk wants to go first in line."
The truth of the matter is that it really isn't worth it.

Sometimes it is a genuine mistake if you are unfamiliar with the area, not looking too closely at signs, distracted, etc. (i have had this happen once or twice), but of course it is usually a case of some jerk who wants to cut ahead.
As the driver in the line, you don't know which type of person this is...was it a mistake or intentional? And SOMEONE has to let them in eventually, I suppose. There's also the problem of them becoming increasingly aggressive if they aren't let in....is it really worth a fender bender just to teach them a lesson??? (maybe it is!!!)

People speed up sometimes because they just don't pay attention and sometimes because they're jerks. There are many reasons people let the others in: they are polite, they are scared, or lastley they notice the jerks for what they are and feel sorry for them, etc...

O perfect driver that you are, don't try and convince me that you have not done the same thing or at least something similar. Why don't you stay home? then you won't be in my way when I need to merge.

Cause they're @ssholes!
I usually let them in to avoid an accident. I get pi$$ed though when someone doesn't acknowledge that you let them in... usually because they're too busy on their phone to do that.
