Punjab, Homeland of the Sikhs

Birth place of the founder of the Sikh religion

Sikh holy land stretching from Pakistan into India.
Both Indian Punjab and Pakistan Punjab is and always will be part of the Sikh holy lands

The Punjab (or Panj) is an area of Northern India where the Sikh religion was founded. Five rivers run down from the Himalayas into the Indus valley, Punj means five, ab means water. 60% of the populations are Sikhs.

It is a fertile area because of the quantity of water flowing through it. Punjab is watered by the rivers Beas, Sutlej, Ravi and Ghaggar. Ancient Punjab formed a part of the vast Indo-Iranian region.

The historical foundations of Punjab may be said to have been laid by Banda Singh Bahadur, a hermit who became a military leader and, with his fighting band of Sikhs, temporarily liberated the eastern portion of Punjab from Mughal rule in 1709-10. The Sikhs later established their power over the area, building a powerful kingdom and adding more territory. It was only after the weakening of the Mughal stronghold in Delhi, that the Sikhs reorganised themselves, and formed confederacies to present a united front. The name of Maharajah Ranjit Singh is prominent among the heads of these Sikh confederacies. He united all the Sikhs, and built a mighty kingdom, which remained invincible for many years. However, his death led to a collapse of this edifice, and after two abortive Anglo- Sikh wars

It is not "a" Punjab, it's Punjab or the Punjab. Alternative spelling: Panjab.
It is a region in South Asia, part of it in India (the state of Punjab), part of it in Pakistan (the province of Punjab).

Punjabi is one of the languages spoken in this region. It can also refer to the people from this region.
