You have to keep your house REALLY clean. No food left out anywhere or dirty dishes. Keep your counters clean with Lysol wipes or whatever (even for small splashes or spills, get them right away). If they are the big ones they could be from outside as well so don't feel bad if you are keeping the house clean and you still see them. Set bait and traps around everywhere and spray baseboards and all around doors to the outside with a roach spray that is supposed to last for at least a few months but reapply more often than needed.

If they are the small ones that are called german cockroaches you are in big trouble. I would almost bet you'd have to get the house tented because I have heard those ones take over the whole house in all the walls and everything.

Take some boric powder(Carrom Board powder) add twice the qty of wheat flour , some milk and sugar .Make small balls and keep in at various places in the kitchen. The cockroaches are sure to find the balls tasty and boric acid kill the cockroach. Boric acid is harmless to humans and even children. It is also applied on wound. This is the best method to get rid of cockroaches. The balls can be kept lying in the kitchen until you are completely rid of the cockroaches. Boric acid is easily available in all sport shops and medical stores.

Cleanliness usually is not a factor in having a cockroach problem.
The things most roaches eat cant be cleaned up anyway, like glue that holds drawers together, or glue that holds paper bags together.
You dont identify which roaches you are having a problem with.A professional can identify the type and recommend a safe treatment strategy to deal with them. Different roaches require a different treatment. German roaches need baits, crack and crevice treatments while American roaches(water bugs) need an exterior treatment and wall void treatment.
I cant recommend any treatment without proper id and it probably would just make the problem worse and spread them to other areas if you spray indiscriminately. You could also hurt your family or pets. Use a professional.

Make sure that you keep the remains of food securely wrapped in your trash bin. Denying the roaches their source of food would keep them away. Also, there are special disks that you leave at certain parts of the kitchen and they contain a special edible formula which kills the roaches when they eat them.

get cockroack baits and keep them there at all times, should change every 3 months, put them in dark warm places, like near the stove and fridge, they like to hide and do not travel far for their food
